How to Sign Up

Sign up to Startific is quick!

If you don’t have a Startific account, you can sign up for one in a few easy steps. To sign up for a brand new account, just fill the form with your:

  • Full name
  • Email: without entering a valid email, you are unable to create and confirm your account
  • Password: enter a valid password, with at least 6 characters in length and use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks.
  • Confirm Password: retype password field is used to prevent user mistyping

 

Password strength. How can I make my password stronger?

When creating a new password, be sure that it is at least 6 characters in length and use a complex string of numbers, letters, and punctuation marks. You may want to try mixing uppercase and lowercase letters or making your password longer.

Ideally, your password should be easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to figure out. For added security, your password should also be different than other passwords that you use on the internet.

How to Log In to Startific


You may login to Startific in two ways:

Classic Login:

      enter the Email and Password you have used to register to Startific, and click

Log In
Social Login:

      if you already have a Facebook or a Twitter account you may directly Login without having to create an account inside Startific. In the

Log In

    menu, click on the Facebook or Twitter icon to login using your social networks.

How to Edit your Profile

Edit profile button:

The the Edit Profile and the Log Out buttons appear only when you, the user have logged in.
Clicking the Edit Profile button will bring you to the Edit Profile Page where you can edit you personal preferences.

The Edit button allow you to modify each category.
You are able to personalise your profile so it fits you best.
Editable fields are: Profile photo, Name, Page Name, Page tags, email, Password and confirm password edit.

  • Profile photo:     Enable you to add a profile picture, choose the one that fits you best.
  • Name: Add you real name to the database, so you may be easily be found be peers inside Startific or using search engines.
  • Page title: add a page title that describe your page best. Each user has its own personal http address. In example a page name: John.Doe, has a personal public page www.startific.com/John.Doe
  • Page tags: add tags that describe your page best. Like intereste, focus, what it is about, etc. Use short words separated by commas like: “technology, high-tech, online, your name
  • Email: this field is important. Without adding a valid email address, you may not recover your lost password, reset it, or just change it. Or even, you will make impossible Startific be contact you.
  • Password and confirm password: add new identical passwords to change your old password with a new one.
  • Delete account: will completely erase your account and all the information residing inside of it

POPULAR FEATURES

Main Page Movements

At the button of the page, just above the Lower Bar instead of page numbers, we have Page Dots .
Those Page Dots are in fact page selectors that enable you to jump from page to page.
There are several ways of moving through pages:

1. By clicking the “Page Dots”

Move from a page to another just by clicking with your mouse the appropriate Page Dot.
When hovering with your mouse pointer over a particular Page Dot, the corresponding page name will appear.

2. Using mouse scroll wheel

Use your mouse scroll wheel to move through pages from left to right; or depending of the rotation – from right to left.
Pages have infinity scroll, you with loop from the last page to first page, and opposite.

3. By clicking and dragging an empty space on the page

You are also able to move from page to page by clicking on an empty space between objects (icons or widgets), and drag the page with the mouse from side to side.

Lower Bar Movements

Raise the Lower Bar to access the menus residing in it. It can be done in two ways:
a) Clicking the Show/Hide Bar button
b) You may also raise or lower it by clicking with your mouse pointer an empty space on the Lower Bar and dragging it up or down.

Logo shortcut

Clicking on the logo will close all the open tabs and bring you to the Home Page, giving you a fresh start.

Add Icons and Widgets from Lower Bar

Adding icons and widgets from Startific database to the main page can be done in two ways. After raising the Lower Bar, click Icons button or Widget button   <img
a) After you have found the desired icon or widget just Drag & Drop it from the Lower Bar to the page you are currently on,

b) Another way is to click the Add button     that appear on top of the icon/widget

MANAGE PAGES

Create new page

New Page button: allow you to create a new page.
By clicking theNew Pagebutton, you will create a new page and will visually see the new page create with the appearance of a new Page Dot located just above the Lower Bar .

Delete a page

Delete Page button : allows you to delete your pages. You can delete only the page that is currently open, and you’re unable to delete all your pages at once.

There are two essential pages that you cannot delete:

  • Home Page
  • Bookmarks Page

 

Change the name of a page


In the Lower Bar, underneath Page Dots, there is a field that contain the Page Name.
To modify the name of a page you take the following steps:

  1. You must currently be in the page that you want to change the name, to save the change
  2. Click on the Page Name field to enter the text edit mode
  3. Enter the new name and press Enter

 

Make your page Public or Hidden

You can personalise your pages by making them visible or hidden from the public.
If you’re comfortable making something you share open to anyone on the internet, you can choose to make a page or all pages Public. Public mean your pages are visible to all internet users. Hidden means that only you have access to those specific pages.

Share your page with others


Startific is offering you with the Share Menu , the ability to socially share your content on your favorite social networks. Well over 300 social platforms are currently available. So don’t hesitate to give the world back your insight!
The Share Menu is situated in the top left corner of your page.
According to your needs, it can be either visible or hidden. Hiding and revealing the Share Menu is simple – just press the   to hide or reveal the Share Menu

LOWER BAR MENUS

Email Menu

The purpose of this button is to notify you when you have received a new email. A blue hallow surrounding the email icon will appear when you have an unread email.

With Email Menu you can connect Startific to your favorite email service providers, like:

  • Yahoo Mail
  • Gmail
  • Hotmail
  • Custom email providers

* To receiving notifications inside Startific, from your email provider ( Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc), be sure to have enabled the option that allow the use of external services.

Search Menu

Search is a powerful tool for finding out different things inside Startific. Search for your favorite band, politician; search for a friend or just for a brand that you like.
This is where tag placement come in handy; Startific don’t just search for names but also for relevant tags.
When creating a page, it is very important to place relevant tags; because it allows content to become more easily found, aggregated and distributed in other relevant context outside Startific.

An effective tagging consists in selecting a comprehensive set of keywords that organically describes the specific content, also while offering enough relevant words that helps to be picked up by user searches.

Page Properties Menu

This menu gives you multiple functions for your pages:

Create new page

New Page button: allow you to create a new page.
By clicking theNew Pagebutton, you will create a new page and will visually see the new page create with the appearance of a new Page Dot located just above the Lower Bar .

Delete a page

Delete Page button : allows you to delete your pages. You can delete only the page that is currently open, and you’re unable to delete all your pages at once.

There are two essential pages that you cannot delete:

  • Home Page
  • Bookmarks Page

 

Make your page Public or Hidden

You can personalise your pages by making them visible or hidden from the public.
If you’re comfortable making something you share open to anyone on the internet, you can choose to make a page or all pages Public. Public mean your pages are visible to all internet users. Hidden means that only you have access to those specific pages.

Bookmarks button

Bookmark button open thePopulate pages with Bookmarks page; page that manages and transform your bookmarks into icons, and distributes them through your personal pages.

Add New Icon Menu

This menu is used for manually creating and adding an icon to your page.
Follow these steps to manually add a new icon:

  • In the Lower Bar, click the Add new Icon button to open its menu.
  • In the first field (Name field), enter the name of your icon.
  • In the second field (Web Address field), enter the web address that will link the icon to a specific page. Note: you must always add http:// in front of the link.
  • Adding an image to the icon may be done in two ways:
  •     a) by uploading a picture from your computer
  •     b) by linking a picture from the web, using a http:// address
  • Click CREATE to add your newly created icon to your page.

Auto Hide function

Click the Auto Hide button, to activate or deactivate its function.
By default, auto hide function is turned off to always show the Lower Bar. You can hide the Lower Bar to create more space on the dashboard.
When auto hide is turned on to hide the Lower Bar, it will remain hidden until you move the mouse pointer over the hidden Lower Bar location to have it temporarily pop-up until you move the mouse point away from the Lower Bar location. It will then be hidden again.

Background Menu

Add new background pictures

Click on Add image button and select one of the two available options:
a) From Computer: navigate and select a picture located inside your computer’s hard drive
b) Web Address find a picture online on the web, and copy/past the link of the photo into the Web Address field

A maximum of 9 images may be added in the database.
When all the 9 image slots are occupied and you want to add an additional image, the last image is replaced automatically.

Select Picture Positioning

To select the positioning of the picture, click on the drop down menu and select one of the 4 options:
a) Center: align your picture to the center of the screen
b) Top: align the picture to the top of the screen
c) Left: align the picture to the left of the screen
d) Repeat: this option will tile your picture infinitely. No matter how large your screen is, this option will fit any screen size.

Automatically change backgrounds

Startific is able to change backgrounds automatically every few minutes. The number entered in the “Change image every _ minute”, represent the minute interval that changes the background image.

Checkmark:checkmark the images you would like to be displayed cyclically as a background
Shuffle: Click the Shuffle checkbox to enable displaying randomly the background images.
Deleting an image: when the mouse pointer is over a picture, an X mark appear at its top right corner, click it to delete the selected picture.

Hide/Show Lower Bar

Raise the Lower Bar to access the menus residing in it. It can be done in two ways:
a) Clicking the Show/Hide Bar button
b) You may also raise or lower it by clicking and dragging on an empty space on the Lower Bar.

Icon and Widget movement

Like most of the objects in Startific, Icons and Widgets are also Draggable and Droppable.
Simply Click and Drag a widget or icon, to reposition it on the page.

ICONS

The icon itself is a small picture or symbol serving as an electronic hyperlink for the web. We build the graphic around the icon so it enables you to easily and intuitively navigate to your favorite online content.
Icons are all draggable and droppable, so you may position them wherever you like best on your pages.
The icons positioning is limited by the space between the Upper bar and the Lower bar.

Edit an Icon

When the mouse pointer is over an Icon, the Sprocket Icon notification appear at its top right corner, showing that the icon is editable from there.

When the mouse pointer is over the Sprocket Icon, a complementary Edit appear underneath it. You are able to edit the icon only after clicking the Sprocket Icon with the Edit text

After clicking the Sprocket Icon, the Icon Edit Menu will appear. From there you will be able to modify the Name, the Location ( http:// web address ) and the icon’s Image.

Follow these steps to edit an icon:

  • Enter in the first field (Name field), the new name of your icon.
  • In the second field (Web Address field), enter the web address that will link the icon to a specific page. Note: you must always add http:// in front of the link.
  • Adding an image to the icon may be done in two ways:
  •     a) by uploading a picture from your computer
  •     b) by linking a picture from the web, using a http:// address
  • Click SAVE to save changes and closes the Edit Icon Menu.

The image selected to represent the icon (either from hard drive or from http address) is automatically adjusted to fit the size of the icon (50 x 50 pixels).
If you don’t add an image for the icon, Startific will automatically use the website’s favicon and resize it to appropriate dimension.

Startific does have a database with the most common icons, so you don’t have to search every time for the appropriate icon. In example: Icons with the web address www.guugle.com/abcdef/abc – use only the root of the website guugle.com, and have a corresponding icon in its database named “guugle.com.jpg “ – the photo is automatically assigned to the icon

Delete an Icon

When the mouse pointer is over an Icon, the Sprocket Icon notification appear at its top right corner, showing that the icon is editable from there.

After clicking the Sprocket Icon, the Icon Edit Menu will pop up. From there you will be able to delete the icon – by clicking the DELETE button.

Clicking the Delete button, will permanently delete the Icon from your page.

Group icons ( folders )

Group Icon:

To create a group simply drag and drop an icon on top of another; this will automatically create a group.
When a Group is clicked, it expands revealing the contained icons.

Add an Icon from Startific

Adding icons from Startific database to the main page can be done in two ways. After raising the Lower Bar, click Icons button  

a) Search through Startific database, and after you have found the desired icon, just Drag & Drop the Icon from the Lower Bar to the page you are currently on,

b) Another way is to click the Add button     that appear on top of the icon situated in the Lower Bar.

Create an Icon manually

If you did not find your favorite icon in our database, you are able to manually Create an Icon.
• Click the Create Icon button     situated in the Lower Bar. The menu will appear enabling you to choose a thumbnail, add a name and a http:// address to your icon. Finalise the operation by clicking Create ; it will add the new icon to the current page you are on, at that time.

Upload an Icon to Startific Database

You are able to upload a new icon inside Startific Database, that will allow all users to use it.

  • After raising the Lower Bar, click Icons button  
  • Then, open the Add New Icon tab  
  • Follow the steps inside the Add new Icon menu, and click Save

WIDGETS

The widget itself is is an element of the user interface that displays an information arrangement changeable by the user, similar to a small app. A defining characteristic of a widget is to provide interactions with the content of different websites, or to access some particular functions.
Widgets are all draggable and droppable, so you may position them wherever you like best on your pages.
The Widget positioning (similar to Icons) is limited by the space between the Upper bar and the Lower bar.

Add a Widget to your page

Adding widgets from Startific database to the main page can be done in two ways. After raising the Lower Bar, click Widget button  

a) Search through Startific database, and after you have found the desired widget, just Drag & Drop the widget from the Lower Bar to the page you are currently on,

b) Another way is to click the Add button     that appear on top of the widget situated in the Lower Bar.

Upload a Widget to Startific Database

You are able to upload a new widget inside Startific Database, that will allow all users to use it.

  • After raising the Lower Bar, click Widget button  
  • Then, open the Add New Widget tab  
  • Follow the steps inside the Add new Widget menu, and click Save

Edit a Widget

When the mouse pointer is over the Widget, the Sprocket Icon notification appear at its top right corner, showing that the widget is editable from there. Click the sprocket to enter in edit mode

Widgets differ from each other quite a lot, this means each widget has different editing parameters; note that not all widgets are editable.

Delete a Widget

When the mouse pointer is over the Widget, the Sprocket Icon notification appear at its top right corner, showing that it is editable from there.
After clicking the Sprocket Icon, the Icon Widget Menu will be revealed. From there you will be able to delete the widget – by clicking the DELETE button.

Clicking the Delete button, will permanently delete the Widget from your page.

BOOKMARKS


Have you ever gone to a website and liked it so much you wanted to keep going back? You can save it as a bookmark, which means next time all you have to do is select it from the list where it was saved

The Bookmarks page is different from the other pages and thus cannot be deleted. Startific enable you to upload all your favorite bookmarks and keep them where it is needed: online.
Bookmarks page is strategically positioned as the last page, so you won’t forget its location.
When your mouse pointer is over a bookmark, you will see a snapshot of the website in the Bookmark Preview Window located just above the bookmarks.

Buttons:

  • Import button: will import all your bookmarks into your personal Startific database.
  • New Folder button: create a new bookmark folder.
  • New Bookmark: clicking it will enable you to create one new bookmark.

 

Import and Export bookmarks

Populating the Bookmarks page is easily done; you only need is to import your bookmarks to Startific.

Importing bookmarks:

  1. Web Browsers have the ability to export your bookmarks as a HTML file, in the location you choose.
  2. After successfully creating the HTML file, return in Startific to your Bookmarks page, and click Import Bookmarks button.
  3. Select the exported HTML file you created.
  4. Click OK, and that’s it!

 

Every browser has the the ability to create an export bookmarks list in form of an HTML file. Use our help documentation to guide you in how to export the bookmarks from your web-browsers:

 

Import/Export bookmarks from Chrome

  1. Click the : Wrench Icon located in the top right of the browser.
  2. Select Bookmark manager ( or press CTRL+SHIFT+O ).
  3. Click the Organize menu in the manager.
  4. Select Export bookmarks.
  5. Choose a location where you want your exported file to be saved, then click Save.

 

Chrome will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, in the location you chose.** After successfully creating the HTML file, return in Startific to your Bookmark page, and click Import Bookmarks button.** Select the exported HTML file you just created.

** Click OK, and that’s it!

 

Import/Export bookmarks from Firefox

To export bookmarks from Firefox, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Bookmarks button on the right side of the navigation toolbar (Windows XP: click the Bookmarks menu) and select Show All Bookmarks to open the Library window.
  2. From the toolbar on the Library window, click Import and Backup and choose Export Bookmarks to HTML
  3. In the Export Bookmarks File window that opens, choose a location to save the file, which is named bookmarks.html by default. Save the file in any place that is easy to remember.
  4. Click the Save button. The Export Bookmarks File window will close.
  5. Close the Library window.

 

Firefox will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, in the location you chose.** After successfully creating the HTML file, return in Startific to your Bookmark page, and click Import Bookmarks button.** Select the exported HTML file you just created.

** Click OK, and that’s it!

Import/Export bookmarks from Internet Explorer

To export the Favourites folder, follow these steps:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click Add to Favourites, and then click Import and Export.
  2. In the Import/Export Wizard, click Next.
  3. Select Export Favourites, and then click Next.
  4. Click Favourites and then click Next.
  5. Select the Favourites folder that you want to export. If you want to export all Favourites, select the top level Favourites folder. Otherwise, select the individual folder that you want to export.
  6. Click Next.
    * Note By default, Internet Explorer creates a Bookmark.htm file in your Documents folder. If you want to use a name other than Bookmark.htm, or if you want to store the exported Favourites in a folder other than the Documents folder, specify the new file and folder name.
  7. Click Next.
    Note If you already have a file that has the same name, Internet Explorer asks you to replace it. Click Yes to replace the file. Click No to provide a new file name.
  8. Click Finish.

 

Internet Explorer will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, in the location you chose.** After successfully creating the HTML file, return in Startific to your Bookmark page, and click Import Bookmarks button.** Select the exported HTML file you just created.

** Click OK, and that’s it!

Bookmarks from Internet Explorer 8 and 9

To export the Favourites folder, follow these steps:

    1. In Internet Explorer, click Favorites, click the down-arrow next to Add to Favorites, and then click Import and Export.
    2. Click Export to a file, and then click Next.
    3. Click to select the Favorites check box, and then click Next.
    4. Select the Favorites folder that you want to export. If you want to export all Favorites, select the top level Favorites folder. Otherwise, select the individual folder that you want to export.
    5. Click Next.

* Note By default, Internet Explorer creates a Bookmark.htm file in your Documents folder. If you want to use a name other than Bookmark.htm, or if you want to store the exported Favorites in a folder other than the Documents folder, specify the new file and folder name.

    1. Click Next.

* Note If you already have a file that has the same name, Internet Explorer asks you to replace it. Click Yes to replace the file. Click No to provide a new file name.

Import/Export bookmarks from Opera

To export bookmarks from Opera, follow these steps:

  1. In in the top left of the browser, click the Opera Tools Menu
  2. Go to Settings (File for Mac) > Import and export > Export bookmarks as HTML
  3. Choose the file name, and click Save.

 

Opera will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, in the location you chose.** After successfully creating the HTML file, return in Startific to your Bookmark page, and click Import Bookmarks button.** Select the exported HTML file you just created.

** Click OK, and that’s it!

Import/Export bookmarks from Safari

To export bookmarks from Safari, follow these steps:

  1. If you don’t see the menu bar, press the Alt key.
  2. At the top of the Safari window, click on the File menu and choose Export Bookmarks
  3. In the Export Bookmarks File window that opens, choose a location to save the file. Save the file in any place that is easy to remember.

 

Safari will export your bookmarks as a HTML file, in the location you chose.** After successfully creating the HTML file, return in Startific to your Bookmark page, and click Import Bookmarks button.** Select the exported HTML file you just created.

** Click OK, and that’s it!


Edit bookmarks

You are able to modify your bookmark parameters.
To edit a bookmark:

  1. When the mouse pointer is over the bookmark you desire to edit, the Sprocket icon will appear.
  2. Simply click the Sprocket icon to enter in the editing menu.

In the Edit bookmarks menu, you are two buttons and two fields:

  1. Delete button:Clicking it will enable you to permanently delete the bookmark.
  2. Name field: will modify the name of your bookmark.
  3. Http:// addressyou are able to modify or replace your whole link to your bookmark.
  4. OK button: clicking it will save the changes made to the bookmark.

Maximised preview window


Website maximised preview is functioning as a visualisation window for the web pages opened inside Startific.
Similar to the web-browsing experience, for your convenience you are able to:

  • Move backwards on the previous webpage.
  • Move forward on the next webpage.
  • Refresh the current webpage.
  • Open in new tab in the web browser, leaving Startific.
  • Close page will hide the maximised preview; bringing you back to the current Startific page
